Celebrating Elephants Silent Auction and Lecture

In keeping with our commitment to conservation and education, Oakland Zoo presents its 17th annual Celebrating Elephants Lecture and Silent Auction. Our featured speaker at this event is Ed Stewart, Co-founder of Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) and leader in animal welfare and rescue. Since 1984, PAWS has been at the forefront of efforts to rescue and provide appropriate, humane sanctuary for animals who have been the victims of the exotic and performing animal trades.

Cost and Fees

Lecture Fee: $40 donation.


Snow Building. Please park in the Upper Parking Lot and proceed back across the entry road.

Additional Program Information

This year's Celebrating Elephants will be In Honor and Memory of Pat Derby, Co-Founder and Director of the Performing Animal Welfare Society . Celebrating Elephants allows us to teach our guests about these fascinating animals, while raising money to support the work of Cynthia Mossss Amboseli Trust for Elephants. Through Celebrating Elephants we have raised over $200,000 towards elephant field research and conservation.

  • 6:00pm: Silent auction and hors d'oeuvres.
  • 7:00pm: Lecture by Ed Stewart of PAWS.
  • 8:00pm: Silent auction resumes - bidding closes at 8:45pm.
