Grab your tent, sleeping bag, your family, and a few friends and get ready for an overnight adventure at Oakland Zoo. This unique program includes dinner, a nighttime and morning guided tour of the Zoo, a special behind the scenes, live animal presentations, interactive and educational activities, a Wildlife Theater show, a hot morning breakfast, and s’mores!
This program is available to all families. If you love nature, the Zoo, camping, and fun; this is the perfect program for you!
Age Requirements: For families with children ages 4 and older.
Program Time: 5:00pm to 10:00am the following morning.*
Program Dates: July 8, 15, 22, 29 and August 5, 12, 19
Program Fee: $90.00 per person for non-members / $80.00 per person for members.
Special Discount: $75 per person for members if registering 5 or more / $85 per person for non-members if registering 5 or more.

Families should bring their own tents and supplies and plan to arrive at 5:00pm sharp to set up camp. After everyone has arrived and is set up, your overnight adventure begins. Start your night with an all you can eat dinner. Next explore the Wayne and Gladys Valley Children’s Zoo on an exciting guided twilight tour with a special behind the scenes. Afterwards create enrichment treats for one of the Zoo’s specially selected animals. Head to the Wildlife Theater for a amazing show and finish off around the campfire for s’mores before settling in for the night.
Wake up in the morning to the sound of the animals and enjoy a hot breakfast in the Island Cafe. After breakfast, have an up-close encounter with some education animals not on exhibit in the Zoo. Join your guide for a morning tour of the Zoo and finish off the experience by observing the animals enjoy your hand made treats created the night before. Return to camp to take down your tents and pack up your things, but feel free to stick around the Zoo since your program includes admission.
To make a reservation download the Family Sundown Safari Request Form. Submit a completed copy via email or fax to (510) 729-7324 at least 2 weeks in advance. We are unable to accommodate bookings less than 2 weeks prior to the event.
A $50.00 non-refundable deposit is due at the time of reservation. Payment is due in full 2 weeks before your program date or your reservation will be cancelled. Additional participants can be added to your reservation up to 14 days before your program date.
If you cancel more than 31 days before your event date you will be refunded the full amount minus a $50.00 cancellation fee. If it is less than 30 days, no refunds will be made.
