GROUP RESERVATION OPTIONS

Please choose from one of the following options:

LARGE GROUP RESERVATION: Groups of more than 12 people can register for a discounted admission price of $4.50 per child and $5.50 per adult. There is an additional parking fee of $6.00 per car or $10.00 per bus.

DOCENT TOUR: Groups of more than 12 people can register for this 1 1/2 hour program led by an Oakland Zoo Docent volunteer. There is a maximum of 40 people. Participants must be 5 years or older. The cost for Zoo Admission is $4.50 per child and $5.50 per adult; the cost of parking is $6.00 per car; the cost of the Docent Tour varies based on group size.

ZOOSCHOOL DISCOVERY: This program can hold a maximum of 200 people. Any given program may have students from various schools and different grade levels. Your program includes a 45 minute introduction, after which you can go out into the Zoo and explore. The cost is $7.00 per child and $7.00 per adult, plus a parking fee of $6.00 per car or $10.00 per bus.

ZOOSCHOOL DISCOVERY

ZooSchool Discovery is a 30-45 minute program hosted by an Oakland Zoo Education Specialist. Your program will include an introduction to the zoo and a live animal presentation in the Wildlife Theater in the Wayne and Gladys Valley Children's Zoo. After your program ends your group can explore the zoo at your own pace.

ZOOSCHOOL

Bring your class to the Oakland Zoo's ZooSchool to discover the wonders of the world's wildlife! Join one of our friendly and knowledgeable education specialists for a day of exploration and to learn about the Zoo's many amazing animals. These in-depth programs include class time in one of our on-site classrooms and a tour of the Zoo. All of the curricula conform to California State Science Standards, and include math, literature, and social studies Frameworks as well. Fees vary by grade level and include admission to the Zoo for a single class with 20-35 children and up to six adults, including the teacher. Since these are formal classes, we request no additional adults or siblings, please.

Parking is $6.00 per car; $10.00 per bus, and is not included in the class fee.

PreSchool

Preschool: Animal Differences

Ages 4-5
Time: 9:30am - 11:00am   Fee: $215   maximum 20
This class introduces students to the five basic animal groups through hands-on in-class activities with age-appropriate biofacts, as well as a tour of the Children's Zoo.


Elementary School

Kindergarten: Animal Senses

Time: 9:30am - 12:00pm   Fee: $215   maximum 20
Are giraffes' tongues really 18 inches long? Can elephants hear with their feet? This program helps kids use their senses to find out how animals use theirs!


First Grade: Animal Care

Time: 9:30am - 1:00pm   Fee: $230   maximum 20
Come and find out just what is involved in taking care of zoo animals. Learn all about enrichment and the different physical and emotional needs of different species, and how their needs reflect our own!


Second Grade: Animal Families

Time: 9:30am - 1:30pm   Fee: $240   maximum 20
Who feeds you when you're a baby? Who protects you from danger? Find out all about animal families and in what ways they're similar and different from ours!


Third Grade: Habitats & Adaptations

Time: 9:30am - 1:30pm   Fee: $240   maximum 20
Can polar bears live in the desert? Can sea otters live in the mountains? Learn all about how an animal's adaptations and its habitat go hand-in-hand, and how you can help the world's rainforests survive!


Fourth Grade: Predator & Prey

Time: 9:30am - 2:00pm   Fee: $245   maximum 35
What makes predators different from their prey? Join us in learning how to read skulls and observe different predator and prey species to identify the unique characteristics of each.


Fifth Grade: Animals Inside and Out (The Real Poop)

Time: 9:30am - 2:00pm   Fee: $245   maximum 35
What in the world does "eructate" mean? How do rumens work? Come find out in this special class all about mammalian digestive systems and how they determine the nutritional needs of carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores.



Middle School

Biodiversity

Time: 9.30am - 2:00pm   Fee: $245   maximum 35
An excellent introduction to biodiversity! Find out in what ways the animals, plants, and ecosystems of the world depend on one another for survival and stability. Learn what H.I.P.P.O. stands for, and by unearthing the various threats to both local and global species, discover what students can do to be part of the solution!


Primates (Choose one: Behavior or Evolution)

Time: 9.30am - 2:00pm   Fee: $245   maximum 35
Find out all about monkeys, apes, and prosimians in this in-depth program all about the expansive and unique order Primata. Students will learn about and observe the Zoo's resident primates, including chimpanzees, siamangs, white-handed gibbons, squirrel monkeys, cotton-topped tamarins, vervet monkeys, Hamadryas baboons, and many more. Gain an understanding of the categories of primates, learn techniques for studying animal behavior, or come and explore evidence for evolution of modern primates in these specially designed curricula!



High School

Zoo Business

Time: 9:30am - 11:00am   Fee: $245   maximum 35
Ever wonder what it would be like to be an Animal Keeper? A zoo educator? Come and meet a panel of experienced zoo staff members from a variety of departments to gain a better understanding of what goes into running a zoo. This is a perfect opportunity for high school students to discover the operating needs of modern zoos and learn about a different and rewarding career option!


Animal Husbandry 101

Time: 9.30am - 2:00pm   Fee: $245   maximum 35
This is an excellent introduction to the world of animal care! Join us for an advanced class that takes a look at modern zookeeping by focusing on both the psychological and physical needs of captive animals, and participate in a special activity designed to simulate specific zoo veterinary tasks.
