Boo at the Zoo Costume Contest

About the Event

Calling all ghosts, goblins, and witches - join us for the Boo at the Zoo costume contest! Each day, those in attendance will receive a Boo at the Zoo-themed trading card (special edition card changes each day).

Remember to dress in costume (no inflatable costumes - they can scare the Zoo animals) when you visit. Win great prizes at our in-person costume contest held Oct 24 - Oct 26 at 12pm in the Wildlife Theater located in the Wayne & Gladys Valley Children's Zoo and tag Oakland Zoo on social media to get your photo featured by us!

BOO AT THE ZOO FAQ

Who can enter the costume contest?

Anyone! Children, adults, and family/group costumes are all welcome.

Are scary costumes allowed?

The only prohibited costumes are inflatables because they can be scary for our animals. We request that everyone be mindful that some of our younger or more timid guests may not be comfortable with hyper-realistic or gory costumes, and adjust your behavior to make sure Oakland Zoo remains a welcoming place for all.

Do we need to register to enter the costume contest?

No registration required! Come to Wildlife Theater at noon and let organizers know you would like to participate as a contestant.

What trading cards will be available?

It’s a surprise! A different limited-edition card will be available each day to both contestants and spectators, so if you’re an avid collector you might want to join us all three days.

Will activities include trick-or-treating?

There will not be trick-or-treating, a scavenger hunt, or goodie bags as part of Boo at the Zoo this year.
