Assistant Manager, Maintenance

About the Position

Pay Rate: To maintain internal equity, we have identified the starting rate for this position at the Oakland Zoo as $32.07 per hour. An offer within this rate will be determined by the experience and qualifications of a candidate and will be our best and final compensation offer.  

We are looking for an Assistant Maintenance Manager to work in partnership with the Sr. Manager, Facilities to oversee all installation, repair and upkeep operations of the Oakland Zoo’s facilities and equipment. This is a field manager position which is expected to lead the planning and execution of, various maintenance projects to ensure on-time completion of work while maintaining the highest safety and work product standards.

The assistant maintenance manager will have a solid understanding of plumbing and electrical systems, carpentry and other construction trades as well as mechanics and machinery maintenance. They will be well-versed in all maintenance processes as well as health and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will also have aptitude in undertaking administrative tasks such as issue reporting, vendor management, documentation of work, and payroll.

The Oakland Zoo’s staff, guests, and animals rely on the Zoo’s Maintenance Department to provide a safe, functional, and enjoyable facility. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys a variety of unique and sometimes challenging projects and is excited about working with the Zoo’s other 20 departments to ensure this 102 year-old community institution continues to provide an outstanding experience for decades to come.
