Frequently Asked Questions

What days are available?

Field trips take place Monday-Friday year round, with the exception of holidays and specific blackout dates. Reservation requests—for dates through Sept. 30, 2024—can be submitted now. Beginning Aug. 19, 2024, reservation requests for dates between Oct. 1, 2024 and May 31, 2025, can be submitted (please wait until Aug. 19, 2024 to submit your request form).

What is Zoo-to-Community?

Designed to make Oakland Zoo and select Oakland Zoo School programs more accessible, Zoo-to-Community provides Title 1 schools—in the Oakland Unified School District—with free access to Oakland Zoo, if program funds and space are available. Transportation support is available by request only and is dependent on availability of funds and capacity.

We are a Title 1 school. Can we request Zoo-to-Community support?

Due to our commitment to the Oakland community, requests coming from outside of the Oakland Unified School District will not be considered.

If my school is eligible, how do I apply for Zoo-to-Community support?

If your school is in OUSD—and receives Title 1 funds—you can take advantage of the Zoo-to-Community program. When you fill out your reservation request form, please indicate that you're interested in receiving Zoo-to-Community support. Our staff will contact you to confirm details. If Zoo-to-Community funds are available and you'd like to make a reservation, a non-refundable deposit of $100 is required. There is a maximum of 80 students and 10 adults per reservation for Zoo-to-Community support. Any participants that exceed the maximum limit will be charged the group fees.
