Purpose:
The purpose of Zoo Ambassadors is to support the mission of the Oakland Zoo and Volunteer Services by being of service to zoo guests, volunteers, and staff. Zoo Ambassadors assist guests and enhance the guest experience, providing the highest level of customer service.
Responsibilities:
- Greet zoo guests
- Station throughout the zoo to guide guests and answer questions (wayfinding, amenities, etc.)
- Assist with special events (preparations, collect tickets, direct guests)
Skill Requirements/Qualifications:
- At least 18 years of age
- Able to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster
Time Commitment:
- Minimum commitment of six months
- Minimum commitment of 120 hours per year to retain Zoo Ambassador status
Training:
- Volunteers must attend ALL 3 days of training some text
- Training dates for Spring 2025 are March 15, March 22, and March 29.
Cost:
- Training is provided by the Zoo with no cost to trainees.
- Uniform shirts are purchased by volunteers. Nametags are provided by the zoo.

Serving as a ZAM is a prerequisite to becoming a docent. Zoo Ambassadors are NOT required to become docents.
